Time to Adjust Your Child’s Sleep Schedule

In just a few short weeks the summer will be over and the new school year starting. Those lazy summer mornings and longer sleeping times will give way to a stricter, less compliant schedule. This is a good time to start transitioning your child from the relaxed summer schedule to a more uniform school year itinerary.

Dr. Keisha Shaheed, D.O. of the Children’s Health Sleep Center recommends starting to transition your child at least three weeks in advance of that first school morning and making the change from summer to fall an easy adjustment.

A number of easy steps can help parents make this change hardly noticeable for their children, from gradually retracting their child’s bedtime, to making sure their children don’t drink too much caffeine. Happy new school year!
