Healthful School Lunches Mean Healthier Students

According to a recently released study, the 2012 federal law to improve the nutritional quality of school lunches seems to be showing positive effects.

“The Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act mandated increased availability of whole grains, vegetables and fruits at schools. It also required that students select at least one portion of fruits or vegetables at every lunch.”

“On a 100-point scale that measures the amounts of six essential nutrients consumed, students scored a mean of 58.7 before the new law and 75.6 after, and calorie content per weight of food consumed decreased significantly.” Read more.
